Young Entertainer

 

In September 1999 a Young Entertainer of the Year Competition was introduced to promote and encourage our younger generations and it has proved very successful. The aim of the competition has its emphasis more on entertainment value than perfect performance but proficiency obviously plays a large part. The competitors are chosen from the line up at the festival in May and as is the case nowadays, youngsters who have a talent in whatever direction, are very busy folk, therefore it is not always the case that the winners in each section are up on stage, because the winner has had another commitment. It may well be a second or third placed competitor who will probably only have been a half mark down from being a winner who has a chance to compete. There are two sections and trophies in each section as well as monetary prizes in each section

RULES

1. This competition is run annually,
2. Competitors are drawn from Society Festival prizewinners.
3. Competitors should be aged between 5 and 17 years
Two Classes (a) 5 to 12 years (b) 13 to 17 years.
5 to 12 years is 5 years and up to and including 12 Years
13 to 17 years is 13 years and up to and including 17 Years
4. Competitors may compete in one section only
5. Competition pieces must emulate prizewinning section
6. Competition performance should not exceed SEVEN minutes duration.
7. Poetry, Song or Music should be Scottish in origin.
8 Competitors will be playing to an encouraging and enthusiastic audience.
9. A high standard of skill is expected however the emphasis is on entertainment value.
10. Prizes awarded - Trophies in each section as well as monetary prizes.
